Sleuths of the vigilance bureau today arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Punjab Police from Tarn Taran town while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000, an official spokesperson said.
ASI Angrej Singh, posted at the Sarai Amanat Khan police station, was arrested red handed based on a complaint filed by Mandeep Singh of Boosey village, he added.
The complainant had approached the bureau, alleging that the accused was demanding Rs 5,000 for his help in a case, the spokesman said, adding that he had previously handed over Rs 1,500 to the ASI as bribe.
After verification, a trap was laid and the accused ASI was arrested while accepting the bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant, he said.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him at the VB police station in Amritsar and further investigation was underway, he added.
