Punjab has constituted joint teams comprising policemen and villagers across the state to ensure a coordination among them in dealing with various social evils, including crime against women.
This was announced today by IGP Nirmal Singh Dhillon, who said so far 1,400 members have been enrolled under the initiative.
Dhillon said here that the motive behind the move is to provide a common ground to policemen and villagers so that they can help each other in curbing menaces like crime against women and drug abuse, besides sorting out minor issues at their own level.
Dhillon said the police officers will work in coordination with the villagers, including the members of village youth clubs, sports clubs and ex-servicemen.
Dhillon said while the SHO will be the nodal officer at village level, the SP will take care of the affairs at the district level.
The nodal officers have been directed to submit monthly reports on the number of complaints received along with their statuses.
He said so far 1,400 members have been enrolled under this initiative and the teams will meet every month to take stock of the situation.
