Government doctors in Punjab, who had gone on strike to protest the recent transfer of doctors, called off their stir after a meeting with state Health Minister.
Members of Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association, a body representing a large number of government doctors in Punjab, held a meeting with Health Minister Madan Mohan Mittal last night and called off their stir after he assured them that their problems would be looked into, official sources said.
Protesting against the state government's decision to transfer 523 specialist doctors across the state, the doctors had gone on a two-day strike yesterday, partially affecting health services in government hospitals.
The government had maintained that the doctors were transferred to strengthen health services and provide specialist care at 100 designated facilities in Punjab.
