While presiding over a high-level meeting of the department's officers and renowned artistes of the state, Phillaur said the government has chalked out an extensive plan to formulate the cultural policy.

According to an official release here, he regretted the use of "vulgar lyrics" in various songs these days and also the obscenity in video content of Punjabi songs and movies, diverting the mind of the youth from the basic ethos of Punjab.

"The real Punjabi culture lies in the folk songs, folk instruments, drama, literature and the rich heritage of Punjab," he said.

A censor board would be set up to screen video content, and lyrics, he added.

The policy is also aimed at curbing the practice of piracy of Punjabi music by making and enforcing a related law, he said.

The state government had been receiving a large number of complaints from genuine manufacturers and producers of Audio/ Video cassettes, CDs regarding large scale unauthorised copying and sale of their material.

To check audio-video piracy, an already constituted state level anti-piracy cell, headed by IGP (Crime), would be strengthened.
