Punjab Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said, "as majority of teachers were willing to teach in urban areas, the government was considering to give perks and allowances to teachers willing to work in rural and border areas."
The government was laying special emphasis on the betterment of rural education system, he said.
The government had in principle decided to maintain the standard of education as per the urban areas, Majithia said.
Answering a query, Majithia demanded that the Centre should allow more trade through the land route of Attari border. He said it was "very unfortunate" that export of 29 items was permissible through Attari border while the number of items in the list was around 5,000.
He said traders were forced to export the remaining items from dry ports in Maharashtra, Gujarat and others, adding, the state government would take up the issue with the Centre.
