The policy was approved by state cabinet in its meeting here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here tonight, an official spokesman said.
The Cabinet approved a policy where rape convicts and those facing cases of sexual offences will not be entitled for remissions and premature release, he said.
In another significant decision, the Cabinet gave its nod to promulgate a bill in the ongoing budget session of the assembly for amending Punjab Lokpal Act to appoint deputy Lokpal.
Under the proposed act there would be a provision for constituting anti-ragging committees in educational institutions.
The Cabinet also gave green signal for enacting Punjab Personal Rapid Transit System Regulatory Act to provide localised pollution free, safe and congestion free public transport system.
