As per the flag code, the tricolour shall be made of hand spun and hand woven wool or cotton or silk Khadi but on many important occasions, flags made of paper may be waved by public, an official release said here today.
"However, such paper flags should not be discarded or thrown on the ground after the event. As far as possible they should be disposed of in the private, keeping in mind the dignity of the flag.
"Large scale use of plastic made Indian national flag by the common public including children has, however, been observed during these occasions. These plastic flags are found discarded or thrown on the ground after the event. This affects the dignity of the national flag," the release said.
