Punjab govt meets Air Force officials over flight safety

Punjab government and the local Air Force Station today held a meeting on controlling bird menace and unauthorised construction activity endangering flight safety.
Addressing the issue of unauthorized construction and encroachments in the restricted zone in Jagatpura and Bhabat villages, the government said that demolition drives were already being conducted to ensure no breach of security of the Air Force Station, an official release said here.
Punjab Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Civil Aviation, Vishavjeet Khanna to explore the possibility of setting up an incinerator for tackling bird menace caused by carcass dump in village Kambali which has been posing a danger to the flight security operations, the release said.
The high level coordination meeting between Punjab government officers and Air Force Station Chandigarh officers was held under the chairmanship of Kaushal.
At the onset, authorities of the Air Force Station gave a detailed presentation of the issues pertaining to the smooth operations and administration, it said.
The other issues raised by Air Force authorities included drainage connectivity from Air Force Station to Sukhna Choe, clearance of blockages/encroachments on drain in village Bhabat, unauthorized constructions/encroachments in restricted zones, garbage dumping near Sukhna Choe and carcass dump in village Kambali attracting birds.

Khanna, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development raised the long pending issue of transfer of Defence land to Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) for widening of the Kurali-Siswan road.
The Air Force authorities were asked to take up this issue urgently as the development of the Mullanpur area on the outskirts of Chandigarh, is depended on the widening of this crucial link road, the release said.
Air Commodore S K Indoria, Group Captains M K Sharma and P K Chandola and Wing Cdr Vijay Mohan from Air Force Station Chandigarh participated in the meeting.
