Congress today said the Punjab government is avoiding implementation of Food Security Act.
The ruling SAD-BJP in Punjab is running away from its responsibility of implementing Food Security Act, the state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa said in a statement here.
He also ridiculed the claim of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that Food Security Act was carbon copy of the Atta-Dal scheme launched by the state government.
Bajwa said SAD-BJP government was running the Atta-Dal scheme by diverting funds from central government's Above Poverty Line food programme, a fact highlighted in the CAG report.
He said the Atta-Dal scheme has failed due to mismanagement and corruption.
"It covered only a fraction of eligible beneficiaries in the state...Over 25 lakh families are out of the ambit of this scheme," Bajwa claimed, adding that Food Security Act was the only solution to cater to the needs of poor people as two-third of the population would be covered under it.
