Punjab govt seeks report on poor results in Punjabi subject

Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema today sought a report on poor performance of students in Punjabi subject in state-run schools and also issued instructions for preparing a training programme for English teachers within 10 days.
During a meeting of the core group prepared to train the English teachers today, Cheema took a serious note of the poor performance of students in Punjabi and said that it was a matter of regret that 35000 candidates of class X failed to clear the exam.
He also ordered setting up of committees to strengthen the study of Punjabi in schools. These committees would visit all schools in their concerned districts and would present a report about the worst performers, he added.
He said a detailed report about poor show of students in Punjabi would be prepared on the basis of recommendation after evaluating the situation at grass root level about the reasons by August 10.
He said he would personally evaluate the report of all districts on August 10.
He also said the department would be more focused on English and Punjabi subjects and all English teachers would be trained at district level by the subject experts.

He also issued directions to form committees comprising heads of district institutes of teachers training, English lecturers and concerned DEOs. A meeting would be held on July 6 in this regard, it said.
After the detailed discussion a blueprint would be prepared about the training, which would be announced on the same day at Chandigarh, the Minister added.
Cheema made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for poor results in any stream.
