The scheme was to bring several existing child protection programmes under one umbrella and introduce new initiatives, improve the well being of children in difficult circumstances by reducing their vulnerability to situations and actions that lead to child abuse, neglect, exploitation, abandonment and separation, an official spokesman said here today.
The Punjab Government had signed an MoU with the Union government's Ministry of Women and Child Development, spokesman said, adding, the central share of funds under this scheme was being released by the central government in two installments every year.
The state government would transfer both its share of funds and central share to the bank account of the state Child Protection Society.
The state government had constituted child welfare committees in 20 districts and also a juvenile justice board in each district in accordance with the provisions, the spokesman said.
The Union government had sanctioned Rs 818.22 lakh to Punjab for implementation of the integrated child protection scheme in the state for 2011-12.
The central share of funds had been received for the construction of a children home at Patiala and observation home at Faridkot.

Chandigarh, May 14 (PTI) The Punjab Government has launched a unified integrated child protection scheme in the state to provide a safe and secure environment for the overall development of children in need of care and protection.

The Punjab Government had signed an MoU with the Union government's Ministry of Women and Child Development, spokesman said, adding, the central share of funds under this scheme was being released by the central government in two instalments every year.
