Punjab govt sets up committee for free insurance of livestock

Punjab Government has constituted a departmental committee to encourage farmers to opt for subsidiary occupations and to ensure free insurance for their livestock.
Punjab Animal Husbandry, Diary Development and Fishery Minsiter Gulzar Singh Ranike said that a policy would be chalked out by this committee for free insurance of the livestock.
"The state government will launch a campaign to generate awareness among the farmers about various animal welfare schemes," the minister said in a statement.
He said that camps have also being conducted at the village level for generating awareness among the peasantry.
The minister also directed the officers to constitute district-level animals welfare committees.
