The Punjab government today constituted a committee to prepare a blueprint of a road safety policy for the state within a month.
Under the 'State Road Safety Policy', the state government has mooted to open an 'Institute of Driving Training and Research Centre' and 'Regional Driving Training Centre' in association with the Union government, a spokesman said.
Meanwhile, as part of the policy, the Public Works Department has been asked to remove all holes on state and national highways in the next two years, the spokesman said.
Taking cognisance of the practice of trucks, tractor-trolleys and other such vehicles ferrying passengers, the state transport is working on banning such vehicles from doing so, the spokesman said.
Education, Transport and Police Departments have been asked by the government to work in consonance with each other to ensure the safety of students going to schools in buses of educational institutes.
The Transport Department has issued instructions to Deputy Commissioners and Panchayat Department that roadside encroachments should not be allowed at any cost, the spokesman said.
