The Punjab government and Tata Group have decided to jointly set up a network of skill development centres which would enable the youth of the state to capitalise on emerging trends and the needs of local industries.
A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a meeting this evening with senior Tata Group Vice- President HN Srinivas.
Consequent to the meeting, Badal has asked the state technical education department to work out modalities for the opening of a pilot centre which may later be replicated across the state.
Badal hoped that the successful implementation of the project would result in nearly 4,000-5,000 youths getting trained annually in different trades.
Badal said that the skill development scheme would help his government achieve the objective of human resource development in the state where the shift to industry was the need of the hour as the traditional agriculture sector had reached saturation levels.
