Under this survey, each and every sample of water being supplied in the households whether through tubewells or canal based schemes would be tested for checking its quality so that potable drinking water could be made available to residents, he said.

Badal was addressing a function here after launching the 'Greening Punjab Campaign.'

The Chief Minister said he has directed his officers to get the survey completed within three months and submit the report so that necessary action could be taken.

He said the SAD-BJP alliance was committed to making Punjab clean, green and pollution free and sought people's cooperation for desired results.

The Chief Minister said it was unfortunate that due to deforestation, the forest cover in Punjab has gone down to 7 per cent of the total area of the state whereas according to the norms of the Union Government it must be more than 33 per cent.

Emphasising the need for making 'Greening Punjab Campaign' a public movement, Badal said it could check the spread of grave diseases like cancer, asthma and diabetes caused by environmental pollution.

Meanwhile, in Phagwara, eminent environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal appreciated the campaign and said it should be made a mass movement.
