Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today ordered to make the necessary arrangements for organising the commemorative event as a mark of respect to the legendary Sikh leader, an official spokesman said here today.
"Since the Chief Minister has some prior pressing official engagements on the day, he has deputed his cabinet colleague Sadhu Singh Dharamsot to attend the function", he said.
The chief minister gave approval on the proposal to mark Tohra's anniversary with a state-level function and directed the concerned officials to make arrangements for the event befitting the occasion, he said.
Amarinder said the iconic Sikh leader would always be remembered for propagating the concept of value-based politics in public life.
Panth Rattan Tohra was the president of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), a Sikh body in-charge of controlling Gurdwaras. He died of a heart attack in New Delhi on April 1, 2004 at the age of 79.
He remained the head of the SGPC for a record 27 years, and was one of the most influential Sikh leaders of the last century.
