Punjab govt to implement integrated mgt system in depots

Punjab Government today said it would implement Integrated Management System in all the depots of state-owned roadways buses.
The state government will also purchase 1,800 'Electronic Ticketing Machines' and 'Global Positioning System' for the buses, an official spokesperson said.
Electronic Ticketing Machines have been implemented in all the buses of Punjab Roadways, he said.
As many as 580 Electronic Ticketing Machines were purchased at a cost of Rs 37 lakh during the year 2013-14 and 300 such machines have been purchased at Rs 19 lakh during the current year, he said.
He said that department has decided to renovate/upgrade workshops of the Punjab Roadways.
The buildings of the workshops will be renovated with the cost of Rs 1.81 crore and tool and machinery will be purchased at Rs 4 crore to upgrade the workshops, he said.
At present, the fleet strength of Punjab Roadways is 1,682 buses, out of which there are 1,524 ordinary buses, 135 other buses, and 23 super integral coach AC buses.
With a view to providing employment opportunities to the youths, 1,250 conductors, 1,250 drivers and 200 workshop staff is being recruited on contract in the roadways, he said.
