As per the improved irrigation system, the canal network, which is operating at 30 per cent below its designated capacity, would be rehabilitated, an official spokesman said here today.
He said that under the improved irrigation plan, the Sarhind Feeder would be relined, four canals would be reconstructed besides construction of Kandi canal.
The spokesman said that Rs 40 crore is being spent on the relining of Sarhind Feeder Project in the present fiscal year while this project would be concluded with a total cost of Rs 489 crore.
He said that this project would be completed within four years as the works were on full swing and once it become operational, it would not only save the water but also secured the banks of canals.
The spokesman said that Rs 60 crore would be spent on the construction of four canals including Bist Doab, Bathinda Branch, Sidwan Branch and Abohar Branch.
He said that this project would conclude with a total cost of Rs 734 crore and the project would be completed within next three years.
The spokesman added that the completion of Kandi Canal Phase-II, a stretch of 18 km, with a combined cost of Rs 245 crore is on advanced stage of completion.
