The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has summoned the state health director after a beneficiary of a government-run health insurance scheme alleged she was denied benefit.
The commission's chairman, Rajesh Bagha, in a statement said Balvir Kaur, a resident of Ferozepur, in her complaint alleged that she was denied benefit under the Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojna Scheme.
The woman claimed she was charged Rs 30,000 for her treatment and Rs 5,000 for medicines by the civil hospital, Jalandhar, between September 7 and 20 last year.
Bagha said the state health director has been asked to appear before the commission on August 10.
He said the commission had asked an officer to submit a report on the matter till July 13 but neither any representative of the Health Department appeared before it nor the report was sent.
It clearly shows the "non-serious" attitude of the Director Heath, Punjab, towards the commission, he said.
