Tihar jail, which houses over 11,000 prisoners, has many first to its credit such as introducing facilities like campus placement, vocational training facilities, phone facility, insurance scheme among others for its inmates.

Accompanied by Jail Director, IG of Punjab Prisons, L S Jhakar, the minister stayed in the prison premises for three hours and was apprised about the facilities introduced for the welfare of the inmates.

"He was here at 11 AM in the morning. What impressed him was the jail factory, insurance scheme for inmates, vocational training institute, music room, 'padho padhao' scheme, all introduced for the welfare of the inmates," Spokesperson of Tihar Prisons, Sunil Gupta said.

"We first introduced him to the facilities through a PowerPoint presentation. He then expressed his desire to visit the jail factory. There, he was impressed by the quality of the eatables being produced and was surprised to learn that we have so many outlets across the city and Reliance Fresh has agreed to sell TJ brand products in their outlets," he said.
