A 40-year-old man was killed as he was run over by a train here, police said today.
The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Aggarwal of Batala, police said.
Aggarwal was run over by the Amritsar-Kathiar Express while he was trying to board a train at the local railway station last night, police said.
His body was sent to civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, a mishap was averted here last night when a motorcyclist managed to run for safety after leaving his bike on the rail track on suddenly noticing an approaching train.
Police said that the railway barrier at Khera road level crossing, on the outskirts of local railway station, was down.
A biker tried to cross the track by slipping his bike under the barrier, police said.

As the Howrah-bound 13050 Amritsar-Howrah Express approached the biker he could not drag his bike across the track, so he abandoned it and in the nick of time managed to move away and save his life, police said adding the train engine crushed the bike under it.
The train remained stranded for 40 minutes as the mangled and entangled bike took time in being cleared from under it, police said.
A case under Section 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of IPC was registered against the unknown biker, police said.
