Punjab minister asks civil surgeons to ensure quality services

Taking a serious note of the practice of referring patients from one hospital to another, Punjab health and family welfare minister Brahm Mohindra ordered a probe into all such cases, starting from today.
Chairing a meeting of civil surgeons here, Mohindra said he wanted to win the trust of people by ensuring quality health services under various state-sponsored and National Health Mission schemes.
"The civil surgeons were asked to personally monitor patients' data being uploaded at the district level," an official spokesman said after the meeting.
The minister also said to have noticed that most of the districts send an incomplete and inaccurate account to the headquarters about the health facilities provided to the patients.

In such cases, it becomes difficult to review and assess the impact of the health schemes, he added.
Mohindra directed the civil surgeons to personally supervise the data being forwarded to the headquarters and said they will be held accountable for any flaw in the data.
The minister also asked the civil surgeons to maintain high standards of sanitation and hygiene on the premises of the hospitals.
"It is mandatory for all civil surgeons to send photographs along with reports of weekly sanitation drives to the headquarters for evaluation," he added.
