Punjab government is planning to introduce bakery training course for the inmates of Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala jails after the success seen in Ludhiana Central Jail.
Punjab Minister for Jails Sarwan Singh Phillaur said the success of the programme in Ludhiana Central Jail prodded them to think about introducing the same for other jails, adding that the government would start the programme soon.
Thirty-nine inmates of Ludhiana jail were trained in the manufacture of bakery products in August this year to provide them means to earn livelihood after their release.
The inmates have baked breads, biscuits and other bakery products under the brand 'Anand', after receiving certificates, he said.
The programme was initiated by the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who had visited the Tihar Jail in Delhi where a similar programme is being run.
The minister said Lovely Professional University, which had trained the Ludhiana jail inmates, has been contacted to provide training to the Hosiarpur and Kapurthala jail inmates.
