A woman Harpreet Goraya had alleged that an UK-based company where she was working had fixed a fake visa on her passport and cheated her of Rs eight lakh, a statement by the NRI commission said.
In her complaint, the woman said she went to UK in September 2010 on a student visa for 18 months which was due to expire on January 31, 2012.
"They took her passport and fixed a fake visa on it on January 24, 2012 and handed it over just at the time of her flight on January 30, 2012," she told the Commission in her complaint filed recently.
On reaching India, she received a call from her employers in UK urging her to pay the due to their relative Gurdev Singh Randhawa and his wife, both residents of Shashtri Nagar in Batala.
The Commission has asked NRI Affairs in the state to submit a report before the court within September.
