Punjab pays Rs 4,200 crore for wheat procurement

Punjab government today said it has so far paid Rs 4,200 crore to farmers for procurement of wheat in the ongoing Rabi marketing season.
"Punjab government has made online transactions of over Rs 4,200 crore for the procured wheat in the state till date," an official spokesman said.
A total of 80.26 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured in the state, he said.
The government agencies procured 79.04 LMT, whereas the private traders procured 1.20 lakh metric tonnes of wheat till date.

Meanwhile, in Haryana, 59,12,946 tonnes of wheat has so far arrived in mandis as compared to only 38,95,867 tonnes of wheat arrived during the corresponding period last year.
While giving this information here today, a spokesman of the Food and Supplies Department said the procurement process was running smoothly in the mandis of the state.

Out of total arrival, 59,12,350 tonnes of wheat has been purchased by the government procurement agencies at Minimum Support Price.
Giving details of the wheat procured by the government agencies, he said that 15.74 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured by Food and Supplies Department, whereas HAFED has purchased more than 21.37 lakh MT of wheat.
He said that Food Corporation of India has purchased more than 6.48 lakh tonnes of wheat, Haryana Agro Industries Corporation has purchased more than 5.25 lakh tonnes, and 10.27 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured by Haryana Warehousing Corporation.
He said apart from this, 596 tonnes of wheat has been procured by traders.
