Punjab to computerise records on arms licenses

The Ministry of Home Affairs has made it mandatory for all state police departments to make records available online through the Arms Information Software while issuing new licenses, Under Secretary in the ministry Molay Sangal said today.

The aim was to computerise entire record of Arms licensing system in the country and Punjab was the first state to implement such a project, he said while addressing police officials from Punjab and Haryana at a workshop.

Besides this, old records would be made available online in the next three years, he said.

On the occasion, Sameer Kumar, Home Secretary in the state government, said that Punjab will have a centralised database of arms licenses issued in the state with the implementation of this software.

Making the process of issuance of arms licenses fully transparent, this system would help in eliminating corruption and tracing criminal cases, he said.
