Punjab to recruit sportspersons in Police force

Punjab government today said it has invited applications from outstanding sportspersons for recruitment to the 125 posts of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP), Sub-Inspector (SI) and Constables.
Stating this, an official spokesman said 10 posts have been reserved for DSP, 50 for sub-inspectors and 65 for constable rank.
He said only those players shall be eligible for the posts who have won medals in the Olympic games for the year 2012 and participated in the subsequent competitions/championships.
The spokesman further said it is in line with the policy of the state government to provide jobs to players winning laurels for the state at national/international level that the recruitment drive has been initiated.
He further added that 31 players were already given the jobs in various departments from 2012-2015.
In addition to this, total cash awards amounting to Rs 33 crore had already distributed to medal winners of international/national/state level tournaments.
He informed that SAD-BJP government had already setup a Punjab Institute of Sports at SAS Nagar for expert coaching and 2,000 players were being given specialised training in residential academies all over Punjab.
Besides this, 4500 players were also enrolled in day scholar scheme.
