Punjab to set up advisory body for revenue deptt

The decision was taken by Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia at a high level meeting of the department here.

Disclosing this, Majithia said the advisory body would include senior officers of the department besides revenue experts which would work in cohesion to find out ways to increase the revenue, ensure welfare of people and also maintain land records and redress disputes of NRIs.

The department will be modernized and its working improved as per the needs and requirements of the general public so that they are not harassed, he said.

Total transparency in the maintenance of the land records and deeds would be ensured to weed out corruption.

A feedback system will be evolved to redress the grievances of the people, he said.

The Minister also said that the review meeting of advisory body would be held every month.

To improve the quality of services, refresher courses have been made mandatory for all revenue officials and any official who fails to get trained, would not get public dealing posts, said Majithia.

He said the district land record centres and head office of land record at Jalandhar would be upgraded and modernized.
