The cash-strapped Punjab government has decided to raise funds for irrigation projects by utilising unused immovable government property.
"The government has constituted a committee to assess the average cost of unused and idle landholding of the irrigation department," an official spokesperson said.
The committee would also suggest ways to utilise the land to raise funds for irrigation projects, the spokesperson said.
He said the Financial Commissioner (Revenue) would be the chairman of the committee whereas Principal Secretary, Finance or his representative, Principal Secretary, Irrigation, and Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, have been included as members.
The Deputy Commissioner of SAS Nagar would be the Secretary of the committee.
