Jaypee Punjab Warriors thrashed the beleaguered Dabur Mumbai Magicians 4-1 in a lop-sided contest in the second edition of the Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) at the Mumbai Hockey Association Stadium here today.
The Warriors started the match as clear favourites and didn't waste much time as they drew the first blood in the third minute through a fine field goal by S V Sunil.
The visitors were aggressive in the first half and the second goal too was a field effort in the 17th minute, when Dharamvir Singh took a sharp strike inside the circle to sound the board.
Striker Affan Yousuf scored the third goal for the Warriors in the 25th minute, through a late deflection, after Rob Hammond found the initial touch.
Things went bad to worse for the hosts when goalkeeper P R Sreejesh tackled Affan Yousuf on the edge of the D, a minute later to award the hosts a penalty stroke, which veteran drag-flicker Sandeep Singh converted with ease, making it 4-0 during the second quarter.
The M K Kaushik-coached Magicians could go past the goalie only once, four minutes later through a field goal from V S Vinaya (30th).
The second half turned out to be drab in terms of performance from both the sides.
The Mumbai Magicians will next play defending champions Ranchi Rhinos here tomorrow, while the Warriors will face this year's debutants Kalinga Lancers in a home match on February 11.
