Punjabi actors including Harbhajan Mann, Gippy Grewal, Darshan Aulakh expressed regret over the incident.
"Any form of disrespect shown to The living Guru 'Sri Guru Granth Sahib' is deeply hurting and saddening," Mann posted on his Facebook account.
The Punjabi movie 'Gadaar' actor called for holding peaceful protest.
"Every citizen in a democratic country has the right to protest peacefully, then why so much violence?" he asked.
He demanded strict action against those involved in the alleged act. Mann also called for maintaining peace and tranquility in the state.

"Artists are soft hearted and they are completely disturbed by the incidents happening in Punjab," said Aulakh who had played a brief role in Salman Khan starrer 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' film.
Aulkah said that he also supported peaceful protests by Sikhs being organised by activists in the state in protest against the desecration of holy book.
"Every body has the right to hold peaceful protest whenever his sentiments are hurt. But nobody should take law in their hands," said Aulkah who also played role in 'Veer-Zaara'.
Efforts should be made to amicably solve the problem, 'Carry on Jatta' actor said on his Facebook account.
