Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri Wednesday pitched for introducing a technology-based solution to ensure fare concessions for students and senior citizens on the Delhi Metro network.
At the flagging-off ceremony of the Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri section of Delhi Metro's Pink Line here, Puri said that he has been assured by officials concerned that such a technology-based solution was "possible".
The Housing and Urban Affairs Minister said that the fare of Delhi Metro is "affordable for professionals", but not so for two categories -- students and senior citizens who depend on their pensions.
"We will have to introduce a technology-based solution for students and senior citizens...like we give 10-per cent discount to commuters travelling on holidays and using mobility cards... We will give some concession like this...I have been assured that this solution is possible," Puri said.
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) gives concession to students and senior citizens for travelling in its buses.
