Miffed over his dismissal from the Uttar Pradesh ministry, former cabinet minister Raj Kishore Singh today said leaders from the Purvanchal region of the state were not allowed to gain strength in politics.
"Leaders of Purvanchal who start gaining strength are crushed, even though all political parties look to them at the time of government formation," Singh, who was dropped by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav last month along with Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, said at a public meeting here in his Assembly constituency Harriya.
Singh, who failed to make a re-entry in the cabinet like Prajapati, said he is not aware why he was sacked but added that he was never disloyal.
He also claimed that "a big power" is out to crush him but he would take future decisions on his political course taking the people of his constituency into confidence.
Asking the electorate to have faith in him, the SP leader said that all eyes are on the Purvanchal and they cannot be fooled.
"The eyes of all the leading political parties are on Purvanchal as the people here have the strength to make chief minister..In democracy the real power rests with people and I know that people are with me", he said, adding that in the last elections people here had ensured the victory of the SP candidate against all odds.
