Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation has decided to stop their services state-wide indefinitely from May 5, demanding, among other things, a hike in bus fare.
After the bus fare hike in November 2012, the price for one litre of diesel has gone up by over Rs 9, M K Suresh Babu, General Secretary, Kozhikode District Bus Operators' Association, told mediapersons here today.
In addition, prices of tyre, tube and spare parts have also gone up, he said.
The government has not provided any help to the industry despite it providing employment directly and indirectly to over a lakh people, he alleged. At the same time, government was extending assistance to the state transport at various stages, he charged.
