Pvt hospitals, clinics observe bandh in Jaipur

About 1,350 private hospitals and clinics observed bandh for two hours from 8 am to 10 am today by stopping OPD work in Jaipur city over an incident of violence by kin of a patient who died at a hospital here.
Demanding action against those who indulged in violence with para-medical staff, doctors and caused damage to hospital equipments at KK Hospital on August 12 night after the death of a diabetic patient, over a thousand protesting doctors and clinicians boycotted work.
A joint spokesman of Private Nursing Home and Hospital Association, Medical Practitioners Association, and Jaipur Medical Association, Dr Vijay Kapoor told PTI that office bearers of these associations held a meeting yesterday and discussed provisions of Rajasthan Medical and Health Service Employees and Institute (violence, damage to property redressal) Act 2008.

Late in the night, a delegation of 100 doctors met police officials at Gandhi Nagar police station demanding action against those involved in the violence, Kapoor said.
Gandhinagar police, when contacted, said counter FIRs were registered by the patient's relatives and hospital's administration, and the case was under investigation.
A 40-year-old woman named Jameela Begum, suffering from acute diabetes and whose one kidney was not functioning, had died during treatment at KK hospital, following which her kin indulged in violence and beat staff forcing other patients to run out of the hospital on August 12 night.
The deceased's postmortem report is awaited, police said.
