Pvt players exported 2.5 MT of wheat till Jan this fisc:Paswan

Private players exported 2.5 million tonnes of wheat till January in the current financial year, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan informed Parliament today.
"Wheat exports from India are 2.5 million tonnes... Till January 2015 in the current financial year on private account against a total quantity of 2.9 million tonnes exported during the year 2013-14," Paswan said in Lok Sabha.
The minister said that estimated global wheat production for 2013-14 is 713 million tonnes compared to 655 million tonnes in the previous year.
India has produced 95.85 million tonnes of wheat during 2013-14 against 93.51 million tonnes in 2012-13, Paswan said, adding that global prices of wheat have shown a downward trend during the current year.
In reply to another question, the Minister said that stocks of foodgrains in the central pool as on March 1 this year were 347.57 lakh tonnes against the minimum buffer norms of 214.10 lakh tonnes for January-March quarter.
It indicates surplus stock of 133.47 lakh tonnes of foodgrains in the country, and the surplus stock can be offloaded through open sale in domestic market or through exports.
