Pvt university chairman arrested in fake degree racket

A private university chairman of Jodhpur has been arrested for allegedly providing fake degrees to students without their appearing in examinations, officials said today.
Kamal Mehta, chairman of Jodhpur National University was arrested by Special Operation Group (SOG) of Rajasthan police yesterday from outside a hotel in Delhi, for his involvement in providing fake degrees of his institution without having students attend classes or appear for examinations, (SOG) Additional SP Lalchand said.
"Mehta was held outside a hotel in Delhi last evening. He will be produced in a court today," he said.
An arrest warrant was issued against the accused on January 2 by a lower court here, Lalchand said, adding that Mehta was elusive since the scam came to light.
The SOG teams have seized several documents from the accused including degree sheets after arresting three touts identified as Manoj Kumar Pareek, Shyam Meena and Darshit Ajmera, a few days back, police said.
According to the official, they used to charge Rs 10,000-15,000 for a graduation degree, they added.
