A chairman of a private university in Rajasthan is facing arrest for allegedly providing fake degrees to students without their appearing in examinations, officials said today.
Special Operation Group today said it has launched a search for Jodhpur National University Chairman Kamal Mehta, who is absconding after a local court yesterday, issued an arrest warrant against him.
"Efforts have been intensified to nab Mehta who is wanted in case of providing fake degrees of his own institution to students through a network of touts," Special Operation Group (SOG) Additional SP Lalchand said.
The SOG teams have seized several documents including degree sheets after arresting three touts, identified as Manoj Kumar Pareek, Shyam Meena and Darshit Ajmera, a few days ago.
They used to charge Rs 10,000-15,000 for a graduation degree, officials said.
It was confirmed during the investigation that Mehta was involved in providing students with degrees without them appearing in any examination or attending classes, Lalchand said.
