The traffic mess around Rao Tula Ram Marg and Outer Ring Road in South Delhi will soon come to an end with Public Works Department awarding tender to a company for construction of a three-lane flyover parallel to RTR flyover, estimated to cost Rs 278 crore.
PWD's stand comes after Delhi High Court recently allowed it to continue opening the tender for the construction of new flyover parallel to single-carriageway flyover.
"The project involves building three-lane 2.3 kilometer flyover parallel to the existing single-lane flyover on Rao Tula Ram Marg, a key south Delhi link to the airport. The construction work is expected to start by December this year," said a senior PWD official.
The official said that the the project will be completed in 24 months and the construction work of new flyover is expected to be completed till December 2016, adding that the project cost is Rs 278 crore.
The new three-lane flyover will commence from the existing Munirka flyover and run parallel to the RTR flyover before descending near Niryat Bhawan.
According to the official, PWD will also construct an underpass at Benito Juarez Marg and a skywalk.

"With the construction of three-lane flyover, we will also build an underpass at Benito Juarez Marg and a skywalk, which will cost around Rs 35 crore," he added.
The Rao Tula Ram Marg flyover, which serves as a key link to the airport and NH-8, has been the subject of considerable debate - and the reason for a traffic nightmare - ever since a handful of Palam Marg residents, whose bungalows face the road, opposed the takeover of a service lane outside their houses for the flyover project. The flyover was reduced to a single carriageway, resulting in a traffic bottleneck and daily chaos.
The Delhi Urban Art Commission cleared the project, expected to end the traffic mess along the stretch, on August 27 last year.
The Delhi High Court on October 28 this year allowed the PWD to go ahead with its project to build a three-lane flyover parallel to the one existing at Rao Tula Ram (RTR) Marg on the Outer Ring Road here.
