Inaugurating the second phase of development work of 98 roads, which were transferred by the MCD, at Surajmal Vihar in East Delhi, he said strengthening work of 107 roads has already started in the first phase in the month of October.

He further said Delhi government had decided to take over MCDs roads which were more than 60-ft wide. About 674 roads of 800 km length were transferred to PWD by the MCD.

"The conditions of many of these roads were bad to such an extent that these were not even motorable. PWD would improve the riding quality and make these roads motorable. The patch repair and pot hole repair works were carried out before monsoon as a short-term measure," he said.

The Minister said PWD got testing of roads done by experts of Central Road Research Institute, IIT Roorkee and DTU for strengthening of these roads in scientific manner.

These work cover improvement of carriageway, central verge, foot path, drainage, street-light, horticulture works, etc. The carriageway of the roads was being constructed both bituminous and concrete as per site requirements, he added.

"Now PWD is taking up the work in full swing on various roads all over Delhi. Cost of the work which started today is around Rs 531 crore. The improvement work in other roads started and in any case, all roads will be improved," he said.

Chauhan also said PWD had prepared a plan to make Outer Ring Road from Vikashpuri to Noida via Wazirabad signal-free and construct a dozen flyovers.

Local MP Sandeep Dikshit, Chairman, Trans Yamuna Development Board Narendra Nath and local MLA Naseeb Singh were also present on the occasion.
