PWD to launch drive to clean city roads

In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of clean India, Public Works Department (PWD) today decided to launch a drive to clean its roads, parks, flyovers and drains in the national capital.
According to a PWD official, several steps have been taken under 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' during October 2 to October 23 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
"PWD will prune trees in central verges and Islands for clear visibility of streetlight and signages for its 1200 km roads. The department will also ensure removal of posters, banners and hoardings from PWD's roads which are causing defacement of the city," Arun Baroka, secretary (PWD), said.
Baroka said that horticulture department has also been directed to improve horticulture below 70 flyovers to give aesthetic look, addding that officials have also been directed to remove malba from roads, footpath and kerb channels.
Officials will also ensure cleaning of streetlight poles and fittings with lights to be operational.
"We will also undertake repair works of drains wherever required including placement of manhole covers. A special drive will also be launched for removal of encroachment from PWD roads. All department officials have been asked to take part in true spirit of this campaign to make it a grand success," Baroka added.
