Public Works Department (PWD) will use more advanced technology in taking up several development projects in the national capital, which will be as per world standard.
Speaking on the 53rd foundation day of PWD at Delhi Secretariat, PWD's engineer-in-chief Dinesh Kumar said that they were leaving no stone unturned to develop Delhi and use more advanced technology while executing several projects.
"PWD has so far constructed 76 flyovers, 687 schools, 45 hospitals, 15 court buildings and several dispensaries and has dedicated these to people of Delhi. And, more than 1250 km of road constructed by Delhi is also being beautified and maintained by PWD," Dinesh said.
SK Srivastava, Chief Secretary of Delhi, was also present as chief guest in the programme. Besides, PWD's chief engineer MCT Parera, principal chief-engineer Mukund Joshi also shared the dias.
"I am very impressed by the way PWD is developing Delhi. Elevated roads and flyovers are fuel efficient. We have to work as per world standard. I would like to suggest to choose right contractors so that projects are delivered on time," Srivastava said while addressing the gathering.
On this occasion, Srivastava also released two books about achievements of PWD and cost benefit analysis of flyovers. Besides, PWD also screened a documentary film during programme.
Chief engineer MCT Parera said, "Delhi is now also known as the city of flyovers. PWD came into being on July 25, 1961 and it had constructed its first flyover at ITO on Ring Road in 1961. We are continuously making efforts to make Delhi world class city."
Principal chief engineer Mukund Joshi also said that PWD is planning for systematic growth through roads and basic services despite huge population and unplanned growth in several areas.
