The multi-party People's Welfare Front (PWF) today protested against rising prices of essential commodities, including pulses, and urged the central and state governments to take all possible measures to keep things under control.
Leaders of PWF constituents -- MDMK, CPI(M), CPI and VCK -- all took part in the protest meet held at Valluvar Kottam here.
CPI(M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan demanded to know what action had been initiated against hoarders even as thousands of tonnes of pulses had been recovered from them.
"This was an artificial shortage created due to hoarding," VCK founder Thol Tirumavalavan said.
The protesting members also slammed the economic policies adopted by the Centre and state governments alike.
They also demanded immediate steps from the Centre and states to check spiraling prices of vegetables.
