The Question Hour in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was washed out for the second successive day today as the belligerent Congress Legislators stormed the Well demanding judicial probe into the baton charge by police on party workers yesterday.
As soon as the House met for the day, the Congress members with black armbands tied on their hand and placards reading "Police ke dam par ye sarkar, nahi chalegi" (Government will not run using power of the police) stormed the Well of the House.
"Hundreds of Congressmen including the Uttar Pradesh PCC chief were injured in the lathicharge. We demand a judicial probe into the matter," Congress Legislature Party Leader Pradeep Mathur said.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan said, "All of you (legislators) participated in the agitation. No one is injured."
"You put the innocent people forward and saved yourselves. Only those who engaged in hooliganism and resorted to brick-batting might have been beaten up," Khan said.
Amid uproarious scenes, Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey adjourned the House for 10 minutes. He then extended the adjournment till 11.30 AM and then till 12.20 PM as a result of which the entire Question Hour got derailed.
A protest called yesterday by Congress here led to violent scenes amidst a lathicharge by police and stone- pelting by the workers of the Opposition party, who claimed that their senior leaders were hurt in the police action.
The Congress in a release said that several party leaders including AICC General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry, UPCC President Nirmal Khatri, former Union Minister Pradip Jain Aditya, National General Secretary of Youth Congress B V Srinivas, among others were seriously injured in the baton charge.
