Questions being raised over validity of JU referendum: Guv
Press Trust of India Kolkata West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today said questions are being raised over the validity of the "so-called" referendum by students of Jadavpur University on whether its Vice-Chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarti should resign.
"Questions are being raised about the validity of the so called referendum, therefore, it would not be proper for me to make any comment at this stage," Tripathi, who is also the university's chancellor, told reporters here.
Pressing for the resignation of Chakrabarti over calling in the police to break up a gherao on September 17, students had gone for a referendum on the issue.
The students' referendum was held on October 30 and 31 and majority of them had voted against Chakrabarti.
JU students have been protesting for over a month against the VC for calling the police inside the campus during a gherao demanding a fresh probe panel on a student molestation case.
