Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has informed the National Green Tribunal that there would be no tree cutting in Qutab Golf Course at Lado Sarai in south Delhi as it has revised the redevelopment plan for the area.
"The issue of felling of trees for the redevelopment of Qutub Golf Course at Lado Sarai, Delhi has been revisited by the consultants appointed by the DDA. According to the new proposal it may not be necessary to cut any tree during the course of redevelopment," DDA said in an affidavit placed before a bench headed by U D Salvi.
Taking note of the submissions, the Tribunal has now directed DDA and other concerned authorities to place on record the original and the revised plan for the facelift.
The matter will now be taken up for hearing on April 27.
Earlier, it had issued a notice to the city government, Delhi Development Authority and the forest department.
Advocate Kush Sharma, appearing for DDA, had assured the Tribunal that the authorities were seriously deliberating upon the matter and also consulting the experts to ensure minimizing the felling of trees.
The green panel had taken suo motu cognizance of DDA's facelift plan for Qutab Golf Course which involved shifting or cutting of 450 trees.
"If 450 trees are uprooted, destroyed or fell, it will have a serious impact on environment and ecology of the area. Trees are a source of great benefit to society...," the bench had noted.
