Ahead of Republic Day, the government has asked all states to tighten security in sensitive locations in the wake of intelligence inputs suggesting that Pakistan-based terrorist groups may try to disrupt peace in the next few days.
An advisory is being sent by the Home Ministry to all states asking them to beef up security in markets, religious sites, railway stations, bus terminus, bridges and all crowded places as Lashkar-e-Taiba or Indian Mujahideen terrorists may try to carry out attacks.
Official sources said the Centre has asked the states to deploy additional forces in sensitive locations and prevent any attempt by terrorists to carry out subversive activities.
The advisory particularly asked police in metropolitan cities, including Delhi where the country's main Republic Day function will be held, to remain alert till January 26 and ensure peaceful celebration of the function and conduct of other engagements.
Separate advisories have also been sent to Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and other northeastern states to be extra vigilant against Pakistan-based terrorist groups and insurgency groups respectively.
