Racket duping US NRIs busted, three arrested

The police here today busted a racket involved in duping non resident Indians (NRIs) settled in the United States.
Some persons posing as officials of Immigration department would calls the NRIs and would falsely say about error in their travel document during tour to India and would charge hefty sum to bail them out of trouble.
Acting on a tip off received by Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna Manu Maharaj, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar Dubey raided an office operating from Patliputra colony and arrested three persons, a statement from SSP office said.
It said sourcing data from Immigration Through Whitepages.Com, they used to make call to NRIs falsely pointing some error like writing wrong date of birth in the travel document and charging a sum in between US dollar 600 to 1000 for correcting the error to escape punishment.
The dollar charged was brought here with the help of Western Union for which they were given 35 per cent of the sum, the SSP office statement said.
Those arrested have been identified as Ashish Gupta, a resident of Bhagalpur,Vikranta of Vaishali and Ravindra Kumar Gupta also of Bhagalpur but all living in Patna.
It said 34 computer monitors, 35 CPU, 3 laptops and 9 mobiles were seized from them among others.
The owner of the dubious company operating the racket "All voice tech Communication Pvt" Abhijit Ranjan and one Sunny are absconding and efforts are on to nab them, it added.
