Addressing a meeting of the national council of the Seva Dal on the occasion of National Youth Day, Gandhi recalled Seva Dal's history of service since its inception in 1923.
He also marked the distinction between Seva Dal and historical perspective and pointed out that "assimilating" nature of the organisation bereft of divisions of caste, region
and religion.
He emphasised the role of a trained cadre like Seva Dal in ensuring discipline and carrying the message of Congress ideology.
