Asked whether he would like to announce Rahul's bigger role in politics, Khurshid said he was not authorised to talk on behalf of any leader of the party.
Khurshid's reported comments that people had only seen cameos of Rahul Gandhi's ideas and the root of the problems plaguing Congress was lack of "ideological direction" from the party General Secretary has raised a political row.
He has, however, clarified that his remarks published in a newspaper were "misunderstood, misinterpreted and put in a negative light".
"I am not authorised to talk about party issues. Yes, Rahul is a very important leader of the party," he told reporters here in the presence of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, both of whom were here as part of GOM to highlight UPA government's achievements.
Khurshid also said some issues are best handled by the party and some others by people in the government.
He said there are views in the party about what Rahul should be doing as the party goes forward towards the future.
"The views are very well known ... I am not authorised to announce. These are party issues," he said.
